Members of 13-South

On Wednesday, October 19th, I had the opportunity to attend the District 13-South meeting. District 13-South is my “home” district and it was great to meet members from the schools around me!
The schools that attended included Shenandoah, Clarinda, Red Oak, Nishna Botna and Sidney. The theme was “Leadership: Rated ‘E’ For Everyone!”

Our speaker was Jamie Stargell, a Youth Prevention Counselor from the Green Hills AEA. She spoke about the organization SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) and many problems facing youth today such as drugs and alcohol. A new feature this year included Breakout Sessions! Members could choose to learn about STAR Events from me or how to start a SADD chapter from Jamie Stargell and in the afternoon I was able to meet with chapter and district officers and give some tips about being leaders and a few ideas for their year as officers other members were able to watch a presentation from Empower an acting troupe that is against bullying or a presentation about the China
trip that 4H takes!

In the afternoon I spoke about my experience with FCCLA, how to get involved and I also gave the National Leadership Conference report with my little brother! My favorite part of the day was a closing activity of “Mission Time!” where we split into groups (freshmen, sophomore, junior, senior) and each group got a part of the mission to read! Each time we got faster and louder and it was a great way for members to learn the mission!

I had a great time meeting with members from District 13-South and I hope all of them had a great time also! I hope to see many members of District 13-South participate in our district STAR event competition this February! Congratulations to the former District Officers on a job well done and good luck to the newly elected District Officers!

I hope to see many members of District 13-South at State Leadership Conference!
