On November 11-13, I, Hayley Ellis, and JT Roe attended the National Cluster Meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota. We along with many Iowa attendees participated in a weekend of unique opportunities that challenged, informed, and motivated members and their chapter advisers to explore opportunities available through FCCLA. The ‘Survivor’ theme was interesting as the National Executive Council split into teams and competed for a hypothetical one million dollars. They had to work together and use some FCCLA knowledge to work through the challenges. We enjoyed two speakers: Gerald Jones who spoke about appreciating your past in order to achieve new things today and John Beede who spoke about following your dreams and climbing the mountains that are in your way. The state officer training was more personal that at the National Leadership Conference; there were fewer State Officers we were able to get much deeper in our training and have a great time! We both attended a few Youth Sessions and our favorites included the National Executive Council’s workshop ‘Lead Out Loud’ and R5 productions workshop ‘Walk a Mile’. Getting to meet and network with other state officers from states surrounding Iowa was one of our favorite parts of NCM! As always, it was fun meeting Iowa FCCLA members for the first time and seeing old friends. The NEC did a great job and if you haven’t attended a Cluster meeting, we definitely recommend doing so in the future!
