On November 16, 2011 we traveled with our respective chapters to our very own District 13-N meeting. We had a great time hearing the candidate speeches and watching the presenters interact with the members. The theme for this year’s meeting was “FCCLA: The Fast Five,” which compared FCCLA to a racetrack of opportunities.
The main speaker for the day was Jane Erikson, who has had previous experience with leadership training. She spoke about the importance of effective communication by talking about various types of communicators and the effect body language has on us. She did three exciting activities to get members up and moving as well as one that illustrated the many ways to interpret things people say.
One great thing about District 13-N is their ability to involve each chapter. Whether they do so by giving them an opportunity to present on STAR events or just giving a ‘thought for the day,’ each chapter had representatives on stage throughout the day.
