Hello Iowa FCCLA! My name is Eva Shelton, and I am serving as your 2012-2013 State President. Through an intense week at Nationals in Anaheim, California, I had the honor to experience an “extravaganza” that marked a defining period in my life. The fervor and zeal immediately took over and motivated me to provide the same experience for others. I look forward to an outstanding, exceptional year full of exhilaration, vigor, and craziness! My favorite FCS class has been Interior Design: the bright colors reflect my personality. I’m also involved in speech, NHS, and volunteering. In the future, I plan to major in medicine and psychology at Harvard University and hold a career as an anesthesiologist. I seek to make a positive difference in others’ lives.

Mariah McGuire, First Vice President

Hello to Iowa FCCLA! I’m Mariah McGuire, and I am your First Vice President. Back in seventh grade as I stared at the State Officers on stage I decided that one day, I would be one of them. So now that I have finally achieved that dream, I most look forward to meeting as many members as I can and helping them come to love FCCLA as much as I do. My favorite FCS class has been Advanced Culinary Arts. In addition to FCCLA, I play basketball, do fall cheerleading, powerlift, participate in Large Group and Individual Speech, and perform in choir as well as school and community plays. After I graduate, I plan on majoring in Food Science at the University of North Carolina.

Kolton Hewlett, Vice President of Records and Finance

Hello, Iowa FCCLA! My name is Kolton Hewlett, and I am your State Vice President of Records and Finance. The moment I decided I wanted to become a State Officer was when I was a Freshman attending my first State Leadership Conference. I was absolutely amazed at the confidence of the State Officers that year, and knew I wanted to be them someday. I am really excited to get to know everyone in the next year as a State Officer! My favorite FCS classes have been Health Science and also my exploratory class. Other than FCCLA, I am involved in Student Council, Academic Team, R.O.C.C.S. (Restoring Our County, Community, and Schools), and youth group. After high school, I plan to major in Finance and Economics, and hope to work in financial management for a corporation or business, hopefully at the University of Iowa. I also plan on getting my Masters of Business Administration.

Erin Edge, Vice President of Student Body

Hello Iowa FCCLA members! My name is Erin Edge, and I am your First Vice President of Student Body. Last year, after I had run for a district office, my chapter adviser wanted me to run for a state officer, so I thought about it. After Mikayla (the previous First Vice President of Student Body, visited my district meeting, I jumped at the opportunity! Since being elected to the State Executive Council, something I thought I never would do, I am looking most forward to meeting the members from across the state and simply just being a part of something bigger. My favorite Family Consumer Science class was Child Development. Other than FCCLA I participate in marching, concert, and pep band, thespian club, and youth group. After I graduate high school, I plan on majoring in Early Childhood Education (k-6) with and endorsement in Special Education at William Penn University.

Raeann Hanlon, Vice President of Public Relations

Hello Iowa FCCLA! My name is Raeann Hanlon, and I am your State Vice President of Public Relations. Last summer at national conference in Anaheim, CA., I had the chance to meet and get to know the 2011-2012 SEC. That experience pushed me to run for office because they exhibited leadership qualities I knew I had and their excitement pushed me to ‘step out of my box.’ I am very excited for the year ahead meeting new members and getting closer to my team. My favorite FCS class has been textiles. I love to sew and have been able to make many things. Besides FCCLA I am involved in dance, cheerleading, band and choir, and youth group. I am not sure of my plans after high school but I’m hoping to find a major, select a university to attend, and explore the Peace Corps.

Jeannie Schleip, Vice President of Financial Fitness

Hello fellow FCCLA members! My name is Jeannie Schleip, and I am your 2012-2013 Vice President of Financial Fitness! At this year’s district meeting I ran for an office, and was elected Vice President. Receiving that office and also talking to a former state officer made me want to become one! Now that I am part of the State Executive Council, I am looking forward to working with my teammates, learning new skills, and meeting new members across the state of Iowa. I am also looking forward to hearing what the other members have to say about the wonderful program of FCCLA. One of my favorite FCS classes would have to be Foods and Nutrition. I enjoyed learning new recipes and improving my cooking. Now I enjoy cooking whenever I get the chance. Besides FCCLA I am involved in 4-H, church group, speech, band, choir, basketball, BPA, and I am currently serving as an officer for my 4-H councils. I am also involved in Upward Bound Math and Science at NWMSU. After I finish high school, I plan on majoring in Veterinary Medicine for both large and domestic animals. I hope to attend the University of Nebraska Lincoln and Iowa State University by participating in their con-joint veterinary program.

Shelby Blomberg, Vice President of Families First

Hi everyone! My name is Shelby Blomberg, and I am your 2012-2013 Vice President of Families First. FCCLA means a lot to me! My sophomore year of high school, I was elected District 5′s secretary. After being part of the district council, I decided I wanted to take this a step further and run for State Office. I knew it would take time and dedication, but look at where I am now! At my high school, I am a football cheerleader and a member of our drill team. I am very active in our drama department, whether it’s in the plays or musicals, or just helping with the set and makeup. This is my second year of being in National Honor Society. I also take part in large group and individual speech. I am excited to represent Iowa FCCLA this year and I couldn’t have gotten here without the help of my friends, family, and advisor! I won’t let you down this year. If you need to contact me, please send me an email at anytime!

Joe Sampson, Vice President of Parliamentary Law

Hello, my name is Joe Sampson and I will be serving as your 2012-2013 Vice President of Parliamentary Law. This year I wanted to push myself as a FCCLA member and as a leader, so I decided to run for an FCCLA State Office. I look forward to developing a better understanding this great organization and to meet new members as well as making long lasting friendships. My favorite FCS class is Family Living because I was the groom in our mock wedding; it was very fun as well as educational! Besides FCCLA, I am also involved in 4H, FFA, Speech, Track, Golf, Student Council, Cross Country, and Musical. After high school, I plan to attend college and major in Agriculture.

On November 16, 2011 we traveled with our respective chapters to our very own District 13-N meeting. We had a great time hearing the candidate speeches and watching the presenters interact with the members. The theme for this year’s meeting was “FCCLA: The Fast Five,” which compared FCCLA to a racetrack of opportunities. The main speaker for the day was Jane Erikson, who has had previous experience with leadership training. She spoke about the importance of effective communication by talking about various types of communicators and the effect body language has on us. She did three exciting activities to get members up and moving as well as one that illustrated the many ways to interpret things people say. One great thing about District 13-N is their ability to involve each chapter. Whether they do so by giving them an opportunity to present on STAR events or just giving a ‘thought for the day,’ each chapter had representatives on stage throughout the day.
One great thing about District 13-N is their ability to involve each chapter. Whether they do so by giving them an opportunity to present on STAR events or just giving a ‘thought for the day,’ each chapter had representatives on stage throughout the day.

The District 2 Meeting was held in Garner on November 16th. The day started out with one of the North Iowa girls singing the Star Spangled Banner. Andrew and I then had the honor of welcoming the attendees and promoting leadership opportunites. There were six officer candidate speeches for the election of new officers. The guest speaker talked about social media and how it is being used today. Andrew and I enjoyed talking with members during lunch. The afternoon speaker was a magician. “I learned a lot about social media. I wish you all could have been there to hear the importand messages,” said Andrew. We both had a blast talking to members about running for State Officer and Star Events. In Red and White, JT and Andrew

State officers present were Meredith Francisco, Andrew McGlaughlin, and Mikayla Vanden Berg. This year opening ceremony was lead by Andrew McGlaughlin, not as a state officer but as the district President. “It was in interesting day for myself, trying to do three different leadership rolls at one time. Keeping an eye on the J-Town Chapter, Setting up as the District President, and of course trying to help fellow state officers”, said Andrew. “I loved the emblem ceremony since, I got to be apart of it as well as the chapter presidents” said Mikayla. They day started and moved right along. The guest speaker for this year was one of the Representative from the Children’s Miracle Network. Members got ideas of their own to start up a team for the next Dance Marathon. Mikayla and Meredith got the privilege to help out the Officer Candidates. “Even though I didn’t get to hear their speeches it was fun to hangout with them before they went on!”,said Meredith. After the Candidates speeches came lunch, followed by the round table sessions. There were 4 different career areas. The areas were Finances, Entrepreneurship, AE Dairy, and Clothing designer. After Closing Ceremony, it was time to head home. We all had an amazing day. District 7 was an amazing experience for all three of us.
